How Do I Know If I Have a Cyclospora Infection?

Only a doctor can make a diagnosis of a Cyclospora infection. If you have eaten at Taste and have become sick, urgent medical attention is recommended. Also, early medical treatment can greatly reduce the risk for long-term complications.

The Outbreak

The local media reports that 8 confirmed cases of cyclospora infections have been linked to a South Haven restaurant named Taste. Reports indicate that 14 additional cases are pending confirmation and may also be linked to the restaurant.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that ill people were exposed to food prepared or distributed by Taste restaurant in South Haven, Michigan.

The outbreak is expected to rise as illnesses reported after July 19 may not yet be linked to the outbreak.

*The symptoms of a Cyclospora infection usually begin within 2–14 or more days of ingesting contaminated food.

Frequent bouts of watery diarrhea
Loss of appetite and weight
Abdominal cramps, bloating and flatulence

As the investigation continues, more cases are likely to be linked to the outbreak.
